The Mural Headboard

I love creating decor and accents in my space. Perhaps it’s my inner-artist or wannabe-super-DIYer but making decor and accents to fill my home is not only fun but an awesome way to infuse a bit of my own personality in my space.  One way to do this is to create artwork. Sure a wall gallery is a great way to show your stuff but why not kick it up a notch and create something a bit more grand – like a mural headboard.

Sure you can use a large canvas or two but filmcore poster board (found at any art supply store) is a great, affordable alternative. Piece boards together to make the size you’d like for your bed and your space and then get your Bob Ross on. Color, pattern, design – whatever you choose – painting your own mural headboard is a lovely way to make your space shine.

Try This: Giant Jenga

With fall right around the corner, I’ve been looking for small ways to make the most of this beautiful season. And although outdoor games are typically associated with summer sun and impromptu cookouts, I can’t imagine wasting this crisp, cool weather indoors. Enter Giant Jenga – a genius (and oh so easy) idea for carefree entertaining, no matter the season.

A Custom (Free!) Coffee Table

I love the idea of re-purposing old pallets found and discarded outside of restaurants, shipment centers or office buildings. From beds to sofas (and more ideas here!), they offer a wide range of possibilities while providing plenty of character from any space. (There’s just something so very comfortable and “lived in” about a rustic piece, and you truly can’t get more rustic than a recycled wood pallet, right?) Yet by far, one of my favorite pallet transformations is this smart, functional coffee table from Ellinors Hus.

A Table Transformation

Our coffee table is in a sad state of affair, friends. From dents to nicks (and yes, even marker remnants from play dates gone awry!), I’ve been tempted to just scrap the whole thing and purchase a replacement. Instead, I’m taking a cue from Weekday Carnival and simply covering the mistakes – one concrete slab at a time.

Make Your Own Marble Textiles

Sometimes I come across a DIY and simultaneously think “how did they think of that?” and “I have to make that”. I had these exact thoughts when reading about this fantastic marble textile DIY over on Etsy. The DIY author talks about her love of making (yes, making) marble paper and decided to transfer the art project to a scarf. The steps seem definitely doable although a bit advanced. I have to say though, it certainly looks worth it.

Creating your over own marble-patterned textiles would be a great addition to your home. You could frame it, hang it over a chair or place a collection of personal goodies on top. There are tons of ideas for taking this personal DIY and embracing it in your home. Click here to check out the entire DIY and let me know if you decided to go for it. If I am brave enough to go for it, I’ll post update pics for you guys.
