Every once in a while, someone takes FLOR and goes beyond a rug and into a new world of inspiration and innovation that both humbles us and inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of what we do.
Situ Studio is a design studio in Brooklyn and the brains behind an exhibit currently running at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Lower Manhattan called “Hava Nagila: A Song for the People.” This exhibit was developed by Situ and their partners, MTWTF.
If you look closely you’ll see that those colorful squares that adorn the walls and hang from the ceilings are, in fact, FLOR tiles.
But they didn’t stop there. Situ Studio used the FLOR squares as a canvas and insituted a laser technology to engrave text and signature images directly into the carpet tiles to to tell their story.
So if you’re in the area stop by the exhibit – running now through May, 2013.

FLOR Story: To The Rescue!

Dear FLOR,
So, first things first: I love your store, i love your product, I love
everything about the whole FLOR deal. Thanks for existing.
I was repainting my living room in a, how should i put it?, in a less
than subtle way. A lot of bright, bold colors (pink, orange, acid green
and aqua blue to be specific).
Peek Behind FLOR

Since so many of you share personal FLOR Stories about your home or office, we thought we’d share one about ours. A common question we find ourselves answering almost daily is “Where is FLOR located?”
Our office sits in the West Loop of downtown Chicago, just blocks from the hustle and bustle of Union Station, the restaurants on the river and the rumble of the El train.
After moving around a bit, we found our permanent location in the Spring of 2010 and when we arrived to start designing our office, we were met with a blank canvas.
FLOR Story : Crazy Colorful

Dear FLOR,
Even before we found out we were having a baby, we were looking forward to redecorating a room for a little one. So, once we knew we were having an actual baby, we started throwing around ideas. It should be colorful. Crazy colorful. Our home more generally is full of nutty colors but a kid’s room seemed like a perfect opportunity to go all out on color.
While the website was fun to use, we wanted to see the tiles in person before we ordered something for the baby’s room. We headed to the Flor store near us (in Chicago) and worked with Kim, who showed us all sorts of tiles. After working with us for awhile, helping us zero in on a palette of tiles we liked, and seeing that we were open to lots of ideas, Kim suggested taking the tiles we liked and laying them out in a striped pattern. She laid it out on her laptop (and even emailed us a .pdf of the design to use when we set up the tiles). We hadn’t thought of stripes but immediately felt like it was a super cool way to capitalize on the modularity of Flor tiles.
We had a bunch of fun putting the tiles together and the Flor definitely fulfilled our desire for a unique and nutty carpet in our baby’s room. We really love her room, hopefully she will too!

FLOR Story : Our Friends at Project Nursery

Dear FLOR,
We have a confession—We have a slight obsession with you. It started nearly two years ago when my business partner Pam, decided to try your tiles in her own daughter and son’s shared room
As children’s design specialists, we pride ourselves on sharing what works, what’s amazing and what we love. So we are proud to announce, you knock it out of the park on all three. My kids even think so too…
Your tiles are both smart and chic. When it comes to messy little kids and sometimes naughty pets, we are having a hard time going back to spending a fortune on the traditional area rug or carpet. We’ve become accustomed to the way spills and stains lift in a flash. We appreciate the colors, patterns and most of all, thickness options as I have some of my own limitations in my NYC apartment.
What started as a simple project for my boys’ room has quickly spread throughout the entire family home. From hallway to kitchen…
And now, my new “pink” playroom which I hope to reveal on our blog in the coming weeks! Keep up the awesome work FLOR!
