One of the things I appreciate the most is when people are realistic about the design of their homes when kids are in the mix. I am all for a gorgeously styled room pictured perfectly for a magazine…but it doesn’t tell the whole picture and it often makes me feel unworthy of ever obtaining such levels of perfection in my own home. Which is silly because we all know that just out of the picture lies the evidence of children in the house!
Maybe that’s why I appreciate these glimpses into the realities of these designer’s homes so much. It doesn’t lower the bar, but it certainly makes me feel like it is no longer impossible to obtain.
These images are from some of the panelists that have been featured over at Kirsten’s blog, 6th Street Design School. She featured a series recently called ‘Good Design – Kids in Mind’. Kirsten and the panel of designers (who all happen to be mothers as well) have been covering all sorts of topics including incorporating kids stuff into your home design, corralling the clutter, kid-proofing and what fabric works best in kid spaces.
