…transform a ladder into a pot rack?
Kitchen storage is easily one of the biggest problem areas for many homeowners, so it’s high time we come up with a creative solution, yes? I recently spotted the beautiful home of Camilla Ebdrup and Andreas Stenmann, filled with natural light, raw materials, industrial accents – and yes – a brilliantly crafty idea to maximize kitchen storage.
In the world of decorating, there are trends that make sense, and others that… don’t. Lately I’ve been spotting a fair amount of interiors that have been styled in some rather unexpected areas. One of which? The top of the refrigerator!
Yes, that is a chair. To be honest, I couldn’t love the look more. It’s odd and unexpected and is a perfect way to cozy up those tall ceilings. Plus, what better way to store additional seating for when guests arrive? I do, however, see the humor in it. How weird would it be to visit a friend’s home and see a chair on top of their appliances?
Tell me, would you style the space on top of your refrigerator? And which look would you go for: expected or crazy?
…get crafty with your kitchen cabinets?
I’m a huge fan of quirky furniture and decor, so when I spotted this unique cupboard, I spiraled into “How can I recreate this look in my home NOW?” mode. And because I’m not necessarily gifted in the area of free-hand drawings, I thought of a perfectly temporary solution:
Why not coat your kitchen cabinets in dry erase paint? They’ll appear to be nothing more than a bright white finish, yet when you feel like having fun with your space, you can doodle plates, glasses and other cupboard contents on the cabinet’s exterior. Or, you could use it as a space to list your grocery needs, important reminders or funny things your kid said that day. The possibilities are truly endless, right?
Tell me, are you quirky enough to doodle on your kitchen cabinets? Or do you prefer your space to be polished and [gasp!] more grown-up?

… color code your cabinetry?
The latest issue of Real Living Mag brought out a show-stopping array of colorful homes, but the one that caught my eye the fastest? This vibrant kitchen full of rainbow-inspired cabinetry in a fun (and functional!) industrial finish.
How fun would these be in your own kitchen? I’d love to see the look in an office setting, as well – can you imagine how lovely it would be to have your office supplies color coordinated and organized in such a fun way?
Tell me, friends – where would you use this idea in your own home?
… circle up?
With more and more homeowners tearing out walls to achieve a lighter, more airy look, why are straight lines getting all the glory? Next time you’re thinking of expanding your current dinette into a bigger kitchen, re-think the traditional route and get creative with a circular archway. Don’t you love how much it modernizes the entire space?
Of course, a perfect circle is no average Joe’s DIY, but I’ll bet a handy contractor would know what to do. Go forth and sphere yourselves!
