Pioneering FLOR

Dear Pioneer Woman,

Recently, you mentioned on your awesome-sauce bloggity blog that you and your family are taking on the task of re-appropriating a room in your home for your two daughters who are about to enter teenager-dom.

First, I wanted to say what an awesome thing to do for your girls.  They will so appreciate the space of their own.  Secondly, I am thoroughly excited by the room you have selected for transformation as it has so much character and just looks fun!

But this letter is to address some questions you posed at the end of your post on what to do with the space.  Specifically, you pondered:

* Replacing the carpet. We’ve been playing with the idea of using FLOR carpet tiles, and have found three different complementary colors we’re in love with. But is FLOR, like, totally 2003? Have any of you used them? Any concerns? Horror stories? I’m obviously drawn to being able to install them ourselves.

So I wanted to take a moment to respond to your inquiries.  NOT because I write for FLOR, but because I am a tried and true FLOR lover and I know you will love them too.

First off, I can assure you that FLOR is 100%, without question, modern, up-to-date and most-definitely NOT “totally 2003″.  The styles they have are fresh and now; and with their focus on sustainability and a commitment to Mission Zero – a promise to eliminate any negative impact the Interface family of companies may have on the planet by the year 2020 – they are totally relevant to 2011.

Secondly, well before I ever started writing on this here blog, I was a FLOR fan.  It all started in 2009 when I saw a demonstration on the Martha Stewart show and subsequently designed and installed a beautiful area rug for my son’s nursery.

The installation was easy, but not without its kinks.  You see, Kevin Sharkey had made it look sooooooo easy to cut the FLOR tiles that I thought I could just use any-ole knife and any-ole ruler.  I will admit defeat as I ruined two tiles that day and decided NOT to try to cut them again.
