Why Don’t You…?

… create your own, one-of-a-kind art?

Typography-based art is still going strong in the art/design world, and I love seeing the trend re-imagined in various homes. I spotted this image from Jennifer Hagler and my imagination was immediately sparked – I’m envisioning how perfect this piece would look in an office, bedroom or even nursery, spelling out all sorts of fun and quirky messages…

Inspiration Only: Vignette

Inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places, as was the case when I stumbled upon a storefront that was styled in the most genius manner:

Post 27 recently hosted a gallery event in their retail space entitled Vignette. The result? Dazzling vintage ephemera and classic furnishings paired together in a swoon-worthy combo.

My favorite look is the above image featuring clipboard wall art, quirky typography and a fall-inspired color palette.

Ahhhh, this will be one for the tear sheets indeed.

What I saw in… Lisbon.

Lisbon, Portugal. Where and how do I begin with this city? Full of colors and patterns, everywhere you look. Take this photograph above, how vibrant are the colors? I specially love the teal square windows/shades, so great. And once you start to really explore the place, you are going to very quickly realize every decorative tile on the side of a building was laid in by someone AND sidewalks that are lined with limestone, all done by hand. The painstaking process of it all… and yet I wish we have more of those stateside.

… the bougainvilleas were in full bloom when we were there. Just amazing. And the graffiti? Looks strangely at home doesn’t it?

… don’t ask me why, I couldn’t help but to take yet another Coco-Cola related image (see a more rustic one in Mijas, Spain, here). This caught my eye straightaway as I was struck by how such contemporary graphics could look that good on a traditional cable car. Doesn’t look out of place at all.

… beautiful typography on the side of this building. Still so relevant till this day, don’t you think?

… first off, the blue (and white) door! Such an odd shape but I love it. And the tiles… this is what I’m talking about, this and more – all over Lisbon.

… I was completely inspired by the black and white photography that was displayed along the buildings, for a good four blocks maybe. And they were ads, much less. Simple, but can you see the emotions in them? And how they echo with the patterned limestone on the ground? Such a strong visual statement.

Why Don’t You? [The Stair Edition!]

I love a good, playful decorating solution, so this week's "Why Don't You?" edition is dedicated to an oft-overlooked feature in our homes: the staircase.

From stencils to paint, quirky runners and unusual materials, there are plenty of ways to dress up an existing staircase. The easiest? A bit of typographic fun!:

A Simple (But Genius!) DIY

Introducing… my new favorite chair of all time:

Sure, I'm tiring quickly of the typography and Ampersand trend, but with a statement chair like this (and a so, so well executed upholstery job!), can you ever really go wrong?

Lisa Barrett whipped this beauty up with fabric from AuntyCookie on Etsy. The look is perfectly vintage industrial and can suit hundreds of different spaces. Bonus? The black is upholstered in black and white stripe. I do love a good surprise ending, don't you?

Kudos to you, Lisa! Very well done.

p.s. If do so say myself, the creation would complement our In Stitches pattern perfectly, yes? Happy decorating!
