Ok. So you know how I was all excited because all I had to do to my baby girl’s nursery was to update a few things? For instance, I was going to change out the FLOR tiles for something more along this color story:
And I was going to change out the sailboat mobiles with these awesome hanging pendants?
Yeaaaaahhh. Well…there’s been a slight budgetary hiccup. You see, there’s an order by which these things need to happen. First, we need to move the guest room up to our third floor. THEN we need to move our son from the nursery into his as-yet-even-painted big-boy room. Then, and only then, can we start to switch stuff out in the nursery. And, well, uh…we hit a snag. The queen mattress that is currently in the guest room (which will eventually be a big-boy room) will. not. fit. up. the. stairs. Our house is 101 years old and the corners are wonky and the door to the third floor is skinny and the steps are steep and all of that translates to us NOT getting the mattress up to the third floor. Which means, after some hemming and hawing, purchasing a NEW mattress that WOULD go up the stairs. Taking quite the chunk out of our budget.
No worries though…because I came up with a way to switch out just ONE Thing (aside from the name on the wall) to update the nursery for the new baby and I can keep the same beautiful FLOR tiles that we’ve had all along:
Ta-daaahhh!! I present to you the driftwood and capiz mobile from Pottery Barn Teen (which is quickly becoming my go-to resource for kids room inspiration that isn’t so sickly sweet).
It’s beachy. It goes with the FLOR tiles we already have. It speaks to me on a personal level. It would totally look cute in the nursery. It’s only $39 and…it’s unavailable. BOO!!! BOOOOOO!!!
Note to self…from now on when I see something that could be construed as ‘seasonal’ stop hemming and hawing and just. buy. it.
Now I have to go figure out how to make something this awesome in all my spare time between now and the beginning of November.
Do you ever have design ideas that are foiled by wonky house measurements or no longer available merchandise?
