The Newest Way To Style a Bookshelf

Ever since spotting Jenny's recent makeover of Brooklyn-based freelance magazine writer and blogger Joanna Goddard's apartment (which is as adorable as Jo is, by the way!), I've been noticing something different about bookshelves. Particularly picture frames and bookshelves.

It seems that we've moved beyond displaying our photos in shelves and are now displaying them onto shelves? Take a peek:

The look is easy enough to re-create with a hammer and nail, and i really like how it offsets the entire balance of things. And the depth it creates? Always a bonus.

What do you think? Will you try mounting a framed picture on your own bookcase, or do you think the look is silly?

I totally clipped a picture from my latest coastal living magazine where the stylist did this with a book shelf that is holding other more kitchen-y items at Bloom in Sag Harbor and was totally going to write about it :)   Great minds…

I've been thinking about putting up small paintings/drawings on my built-ins. I think I just may do it.
