The Prettiest Library We’ve Seen

If you need a reason to put down your e-reader and go experience an amazing book in person, then the beautifully designed Francis Gregory Library in Washington DC is it. Designed by London architect, David Adjaye, this library truly evokes “the simple pleasures of the reading room.”

The facade is made with generous amounts of glass and woven timber and creates a fantastic experience upon your welcome.

Once inside the space, the glass theme creates a clear canopy for patrons to enjoy and experience the view, the greenery and the blue hues of the sky. Another fantastic design element introduced in the space is that the rooms are intentionally designed to be used in various ways.

The designers share that they wanted “to extend the typical functions of the library. A reading room becomes a conference room when it’s not in use, and the atrium becomes an event space.”

From the looks of these photos, the space certainly is incredible and must provide a fantastic offline experience. I think that in these digital times, it’s great to get out and enjoy new spaces and inspiration.
