Prior to Ordering

What size are FLOR carpet tiles?

FLOR carpet tiles are designed to help you create custom rugs, runners, and wall-to-wall carpet layouts that fit your space.

Each FLOR tile measures 19.7" x 19.7" (50 cm x 50 cm), making it easy to build custom-size area rugs for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, offices, apartments, and more.

FLOR samples are available as 6" x 6" carpet tile swatches cut directly from full-sized tiles so you can accurately experience the color, texture, and construction before purchasing.

How thick are FLOR carpet tiles?

FLOR carpet tiles generally range from 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch thick depending on the style, construction, and intended use.

Different carpet tile constructions are designed to support different comfort levels, durability needs, and room applications. Some styles offer a lower-profile look, while others provide additional texture and cushioning.

For more details on individual styles, browse FLOR area rugs and carpet tiles or contact Customer Care for product-specific recommendations.

Can I order FLOR carpet tile samples before purchasing?

Yes. FLOR offers 6" x 6" carpet tile samples so you can see the true color, texture, and pattern of each style in your own home before ordering a custom rug or carpet tile layout.

Each sample is cut directly from a full-sized FLOR carpet tile to accurately represent the material and construction. Samples are especially helpful for comparing colors, testing textures, and planning rugs for specific lighting conditions or room styles.

Samples are priced at $2 each and generally arrive within 7–10 business days. To view how to order a sample swatch, visit Get Started with Samples.

How do FLOR carpet tiles stay in place?

FLOR carpet tiles stay in place using reusable FLORdots™, designed to help modular carpet tiles resist separating, curling, shifting, or sliding on hard floors. FLORdots™ are small adhesive discs designed specifically for our carpet tiles. These dots attach tile to tile, not to your floor, so they hold everything together without sticking to or leaving residue on the surface underneath. Because of this, there is no need to worry about damage to your floors during installation or removal.

The tiles feature a firm yet flexible backing that helps your rug lay flat while still allowing you to replace, rearrange, or refresh individual tiles as your space evolves.

FLOR carpet tiles work best on clean, hard, dry flooring surfaces and are not recommended for use over carpet or padded flooring.

Can I get help designing a custom rug?

Yes. FLOR offers a free rug design assistance program to help you create a custom carpet tile rug that fits your space, your style, and the way you live.

FLOR’s in-house design experts can help with:

  • Rug sizing
  • Layout planning
  • Color coordination
  • Pattern combinations
  • Furniture placement considerations
  • Custom room configurations

To get started, complete the online design form and provide as many project details as possible for the most accurate recommendations.

Ordering

How do I know how many FLOR tiles to order?

To calculate how many FLOR carpet tiles you need, begin by measuring the area you want to cover.

You can then use the FLOR tile calculator to estimate the number of carpet tiles needed for your custom rug or flooring layout.

Each FLOR tile measures 19.7" x 19.7". FLOR recommends ordering an additional 10% overage for future replacements or adjustments since dye lots may vary over time and certain colors or styles may eventually be discontinued.

Ordering extra carpet tiles can also be helpful when designing rugs for high-traffic areas, homes with pets, or active family spaces.

Is there a minimum order requirement?

No. There is no minimum order requirement for FLOR carpet tiles.

You can order a single carpet tile sample, a custom area rug, or enough tiles for a larger wall-to-wall installation.

Do FLORdots™ come with my order?

Yes. FLORdots™ are included with standard FLOR carpet tile orders based on the number of tiles purchased.

FLORdots are adhesive connectors that help keep modular carpet tiles securely connected during everyday use.

Additional FLORdots can also be ordered separately if needed.

Please note: CushionBac Random Outlet tiles do not include FLORdots because that backing type requires permanent carpet adhesive installation.

Does FLOR have retail store locations?

FLOR does not currently operate brick-and-mortar retail stores.

Instead, FLOR is designed to be explored and customized from home using online tools, carpet tile samples, and virtual design assistance.

Customers can order carpet tile samples online to experience colors and textures before purchasing a custom rug.

All FLOR products are available online, through Live Chat, or by contacting Customer Care.

Where can I buy FLOR rugs and carpet tiles?

FLOR rugs and carpet tiles can be purchased directly online through the FLOR website.

Customers can also place orders through Live Chat or by contacting Customer Care for additional assistance with sizing, layouts, samples, or installation questions.

How do I order a FLOR sample?

FLOR carpet tile samples are available for most styles and collections.

To order a sample:

  • Visit the product page for your desired carpet tile
  • Select the sample option
  • Add the sample to your cart
  • Complete checkout online

Please note that 6-inch samples may show only a portion of the full pattern or color variation depending on the design.

Product Information

What are FLOR rugs made of?

FLOR carpet tiles are made using high-performance materials designed for durability, flexibility, and a more thoughtful approach to modern living.

FLOR partners with Aquafil to create carpet fibers using regenerated ECONYL® nylon, which is produced from recycled nylon materials instead of newly sourced raw materials.

Many FLOR styles also feature CQuest™GB backing, a carbon-negative carpet tile backing made with:

  • Recycled carpet materials
  • Bio-based ingredients
  • Pre-consumer recycled content

These consciously crafted materials help support long-lasting performance while reducing waste through recyclable carpet tile construction and renewable material innovation.

How do FLOR carpet tiles ship?

FLOR carpet tiles are packaged and shipped in oversized pizza-style boxes designed to protect the tiles during transit.

Orders containing fewer than 300 tiles typically ship via UPS Ground from Georgia. Larger orders may require freight shipping and additional delivery coordination.

Each FLOR tile weighs approximately 2.5 pounds.

For additional details, review FLOR’s shipping rates and delivery policies.

Where are FLOR carpet tiles made?

Almost all FLOR carpet tiles are manufactured in the United States in LaGrange, Georgia.

Domestic manufacturing helps FLOR maintain product consistency, quality oversight, and more efficient shipping for many carpet tile collections.

How do I recycle old FLOR carpet tiles?

FLOR offers a free carpet tile recycling program for used FLOR tiles and carpet tile samples.

Customers can request a complimentary recycling kit through the Return & Recycle page.

The recycling program is designed to help reduce landfill waste and support a more circular approach to carpet manufacturing.

Customers located in Canada can contact Customer Care or use Live Chat to begin the recycling process.

Are FLOR rugs worth it?

FLOR carpet tiles are designed for design-forward homes that want beautiful rugs built to handle real life.

Unlike traditional area rugs or wall-to-wall carpet, FLOR lets you create a rug in virtually any size or configuration to fit your space. If life happens, you can replace a single tile instead of replacing the entire rug. You also have the flexibility to reuse and reconfigure your tiles later, whether you are moving the rug to a new room or updating your layout.

FLOR is especially popular for:

  • Homes with pets
  • Families with kids
  • High traffic areas
  • Apartments and rentals
  • Custom size rug layouts
  • Design flexibility

Many customers also choose FLOR for its modular design, stain-resistant technology, and sustainability-focused materials.

What makes FLOR different from traditional rugs?

Unlike traditional area rugs, FLOR rugs are made from modular carpet tiles that connect together to create a fully customizable rug designed around your space and lifestyle.

This modular system allows you to:

  • Create custom rug sizes and configurations
  • Replace individual tiles if damaged
  • Rearrange layouts over time
  • Mix colors and patterns
  • Expand, move, or redesign your rug later

Traditional rugs typically need to be replaced entirely if one section becomes permanently stained or worn.

Installation & Maintenance

What are the recommended FLOR installation methods?

FLOR carpet tiles can be installed using several layout methods depending on the product style and desired appearance.

Recommended installation methods include:

  • Monolithic (straight)
  • Non-directional
  • Parquet (quarter-turned)
Three recommended FLOR area rug installation methods: monolithic (straight), non-directional, and parquet (quarter-turned).
*The recommended installation method is listed on the back of the carpet tile and within the product specifications.

How do you install FLOR carpet tiles?

FLOR carpet tiles are designed for easy DIY installation so you can create a custom rug that fits your space, your style, and the way you live.

Step-by-step installation instructions and helpful tips are included in every FLOR order, making it simple to assemble your rug on clean, hard, dry flooring surfaces. You can also download the FLOR installation guide for additional support before or during installation.

Unlike traditional wall-to-wall carpet, most FLOR rug installations do not require padding, stretching, or permanent adhesives. FLORdots™ connect the tiles securely together while still allowing flexibility to refresh, rearrange, or replace tiles over time.

If you need additional help, connect with Customer Care through Live Chat or contact the team for personalized installation support.

Installation Guide

How do you cut FLOR carpet tiles?

FLOR carpet tiles can easily be trimmed for custom rug sizes, wall edges, corners, runners, and unique room layouts.

To cut FLOR carpet tiles:

  • Use a sharp utility knife or carpet knife
  • Use a metal straight edge for clean, precise lines
  • Score the back of the tile several times before separating for the cleanest cut

Custom cutting services are also available. Additional details, pricing, and cutting options can be found on individual product pages or through Customer Care.

Are FLOR carpet tiles moisture resistant?

Yes. FLOR carpet tiles are designed for real homes and everyday living, including spills, humidity, damp towels, and normal bathroom moisture.

The moisture-resistant carpet fibers make FLOR a practical option for busy households, including bedrooms, living rooms, offices, playrooms, and certain bathroom applications. Spills can typically be blotted and cleaned without replacing the entire rug.

However, FLOR tiles are not waterproof. If water becomes trapped underneath the tiles due to flooding, oversaturation, or spills that seep through seams, the affected tiles should be removed and allowed to dry completely before reinstalling.

FLOR carpet tiles are intended for indoor use only and are not recommended for outdoor installations or consistently wet environments.

Where can FLOR carpet tiles be installed?

FLOR carpet tiles can be installed in most indoor residential spaces with clean, hard, dry flooring surfaces, including:

  • Hardwood floors
  • Tile floors
  • Vinyl flooring
  • Laminate flooring
  • Fully cured (90 days minimum) concrete floors

FLOR is commonly used in:

  • Living rooms
  • Bedrooms
  • Home offices
  • Playrooms
  • Dining rooms
  • Apartments and rental spaces

All current FLOR styles can also be installed over radiant heated floors.

FLOR should not be installed over carpeting, carpet padding, soft flooring surfaces, or unfinished floors because soft surfaces can cause modular carpet tiles to separate when weight is applied.

FLOR is not intended for outdoor use.

Can FLOR carpet tiles be installed on stairs, walls, or outdoors?

No. FLOR carpet tiles are not recommended for stairs, walls, ceilings, or outdoor installations.

These surfaces may create safety, adhesion, performance, or moisture-related issues that are not covered under warranty.

FLOR carpet tiles are specifically designed for flat indoor flooring surfaces.

Does FLOR require carpet padding?

No. FLOR carpet tiles do not require separate carpet padding.

The carpet tile backing is engineered to provide both cushioning and structural support.

Unlike traditional wall-to-wall carpet installations, FLOR is designed to install directly over hard flooring surfaces without additional underlayment.

What should I do when I receive my FLOR tiles?

When your FLOR carpet tile order arrives, begin by locating the box labeled “OPEN ME FIRST.”

Inside you’ll find:

  • Installation instructions
  • FLORdots™
  • Your packing list
  • Helpful setup information

Inspect your order upon arrival and contact Customer Care within 30 days if you notice any issues.

How do you remove or replace a single FLOR tile?

One of the biggest advantages of modular carpet tiles is the ability to replace a single section without replacing the entire rug.

To remove a FLOR tile:

  • Gently fold back the rug edge
  • Expose the underside of the tile
  • Carefully cut through the FLORdots™ using scissors or a carpet knife
  • Remove the tile
  • Apply new FLORdots before reinstalling or replacing the tile

Before reinstalling, ensure the tile backing is fully clean and dry.

Unlike traditional rugs, FLOR allows targeted replacement for stains, wear, or damage.

Can I move my FLOR rug after installation?

Yes. FLOR rugs can be repositioned or adjusted after installation.

Over time, FLORdots™ may develop a stronger bond with the tile backing, so tiles should be moved gently to avoid damage.

One of the benefits of modular carpet tile rugs is the flexibility to refresh layouts, move rugs between rooms, or evolve your design over time as your home changes.

Are FLOR carpet tiles easy to clean?

Yes. FLOR carpet tiles are designed for easy cleaning and everyday maintenance, making them a practical choice for homes with kids, pets, entertaining spaces, and high-traffic areas.

For regular carpet tile care:

  • Vacuum frequently
  • Blot spills immediately using a clean white cloth
  • Avoid scrubbing stains into the fibers
  • Deep clean periodically using approved carpet cleaning methods

Unlike traditional rugs or wall-to-wall carpet, FLOR lets you replace a single tile instead of replacing the entire rug if one section becomes permanently stained or damaged.

FLOR carpet tiles are not machine washable and should never be placed in a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, or near direct heat sources.

Many FLOR styles also feature built-in Protekt²™ stain-resistant technology engineered directly into the carpet fibers.

See more on how to care for your FLOR tiles here.

Are FLOR rugs good for pets and kids?

Yes. FLOR carpet tiles are designed for homes that are actually lived in — with kids, pets, entertaining, everyday messes, and all.

Unlike traditional rugs, individual carpet tiles can be removed and replaced if accidents, stains, or damage occur in one area.

FLOR rugs are commonly used in:

  • Playrooms
  • Family rooms
  • Nurseries
  • Pet-friendly homes
  • High-traffic living spaces

Regular vacuuming and prompt spill cleanup help maintain long-term performance and appearance.

Can FLOR carpet tiles damage hardwood floors?

FLOR carpet tiles are designed for use on hard flooring surfaces, including hardwood floors.

When installed and maintained properly on clean, dry flooring, FLOR tiles are not intended to damage hardwood surfaces. However, FLOR is not recommended for use over hardwood floors that have been finished with oil or wax based finishes or vintage varnish, as these surfaces can be more sensitive and may be affected by any covering.

Prolonged moisture exposure underneath any rug or carpet product may also potentially affect the floor beneath it. Spills should be cleaned promptly, and saturated tiles should be removed and dried completely before reinstalling.

How long do FLOR carpet tiles last?

FLOR carpet tiles are designed for long-term residential durability and performance.

Lifespan will vary depending on factors such as:

  • Foot traffic
  • Maintenance habits
  • Room usage
  • Exposure to sunlight
  • Pets and children

One key advantage of the modular system is that heavily used or damaged tiles can be replaced individually instead of replacing the entire rug, which can significantly extend the life of your overall layout.

With proper care and maintenance, FLOR rugs are designed to maintain their appearance and performance for many years. FLOR also offers a one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects, along with a 30-day return window for unused products in new condition. For full details, including terms and conditions, you can view the complete FLOR warranty here.
