I am a lover of color, cultivator of quirk, and acquirer of that unique piece that will make a house your home. If there’s one thing I love, it’s making a space sing your praises. Whether it’s a wild piece of Venice Beach festival art we dust off from your attic, or that brass llama collection that wants to grace the living room mantle, Gina Sims Designs puts you at the heart of your home.
A California transplant to the South, my designs sit at the crossroads of those styles. I blend the carefree, timeless cool of the West Coast with the romantic, tailored charm of the South. I’m not afraid to upset the “style rules” to pull out something wild—especially if wild makes your space more you. Call it my California roots, but I’ll always shy away from precious: your space should be gorgeous, but not so gorgeous that it impacts your real life. GSD designs spaces that are meant to be lived in—hard.
We are firm believers that life is too short to live dully. Sure, neutral spaces are calming, I guess, but what about joy?! We do whatever we can to pump copious amounts of joy into the spaces we design! FLOR is a natural fit for us, with patterns and colors that fit any space. We love when new options come out!
I love the variety we get to design. Each client is different, has their own loves, ticks, and backgrounds that we get to use to make each space fresh. FLOR is the perfect way to bring individuality to the home. It’s so fun!
When it comes to my own house, I take the opportunity to experiment and do what I want. I went from a Mid-Century house to a more traditional one, and I really enjoyed adapting my aesthetic between those two styles. I try out things on my own house that I want to encourage people to let me do in theirs, like a bold patterned sofa!
I love the best parts of the ’70s and ’80s that we are seeing make a comeback. The rich colors, the curves, the colored glass, the animal prints. To me, that’s fun!
